Denver officially started celebrating the holidays on Friday, and marked the occasion, just like it does every year, by illuminating the City and County Building’s Christmas lights downtown. The event was put on by 9NEWS, and recruited the help of Mayor Hickenlooper, rising star and Denver based musician Matt Morris, as well as “Metromix.com TV” reporter Heidi McGuire and entertainment reporter, Kirk Montgomery. Oh, and don’t forget Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, without their presence it wouldn’t feel so Christmas-ish.
Those who attended were able to participate in the live broadcast of the event on channel 9, and definitely cheered to make sure they were noticed in the show. The Flatiron Youth Corral sang some fun holiday songs to warm up the holiday spirit, as well as Matt Morris, who sang his latest holiday song complete with his whole backup band to really get the excitement for Christmas going. Mayor Hickenlooper brought the family and friends to help flip the switch on, which traditionally is the duty of his son Teddy.
Families and friends gathered and cheered on the explosion of lights that cover the entire City and County Building, then wandered over to catch a glimpse of the nativity scene traditionally put in front of building near the steps, as well as take fun pictures with the holiday lights in the background.
It was a great way to start off the holiday season in Denver!
